Is running a successful forum a science, an art or just plain luck?

(1/1)

ApplianceJunk:
For the last few years I have been looking at running a forum as more of a science along with a bit of luck for it to be successful.

As the years go by I'm seeing running a forum as more of an art. Like photography, anyone now days can snap a photo with a digital camera and get lucky every now and then with a great photo, but it's the artist that has the skill to consistently take great photographs.

Is running a successful forum a science, an art or just plain luck?

there is one that i know is about biology and it seems to be doing ok

Kindred:
running a forum is work...  it is both art and science.

you need to find a niche and attract users - but then you need to collect a good staff and keep the users interested

So, as I said, it is both an art and a science...

Agreed. There's so much that may look like luck, but if you look closely, the luck part is really hard work, and timing.
