Upgrade and move: which first?

Hello, I'm new.

I have a SMF 2.0 RC3 on a ubuntu 8 machine, and I need to move the forum to a new machine with ubuntu 12.04 and upgrade to 2.0.2 version.

Which is the best way? I upgrade before moving, or I move before upgrade?
Could I move the 2.0 RC3 forum directly to 2.0.2? I need to use the Large Upgrade package?

Good question and open to debate  :D  However, it should make no difference IMO as long as the new environment meets the basic requirements to host SMF.

However, cautious as I am, I'd be inclined to install a test instance of 2.0.2 first on the new machine just to make sure all is well with server settings etc. Otherwise if an issue occurs you might incorrectly assume it was due to the upgrdae when it wasn't. Just add a base 2.0.2 and nuke it completely once satisfied.

Yes but have you any mods installed. Maybe uninstall them first and obvious check that they are compatible with 2.0.2

ok, the installation of the 2.0.2 on the new server is gone well. Everything went smoothly. All works and no error received.

Now, I can dump the db from the RC3 and import it on the new server 2.0.2?
The db structure and data is the same?

You'll need to run upgrade.php from the large package to update any table differences between the two versions.

Ahi, I tried to dump the RC3 db and import in the 2.0.2, but don't work.

I see the following error message:

Table 'smfdb.smftb_boards' doesn't exist

I suppose that at first I need to update the RC3 on the old machine.
