If a wiki page has been marked for translation
And then changed afterwards -- there will be no effect on translations or translators

Then, if the changed wikipage is marked again for translation (right now, only the doc team can do this)
In every translation, the part that has been changed will be marked "out of date".  It will have a pink background color.

It will have to be the responsibility of the person who marks the page for translation to post a notice to wiki translators that a change has been made to the page.

Hey guys,

I've translated a full page into french http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Logging_In/fr

I hope I did right in the use of the tool.

For the screenshots, I uploaded new images from a forum in french. Should I keep doing this?
The page is showed as translated to 93% although I did it completely. It says so because the images do not have the same name. I added "fr_" prefix to my images and the tool expects to use the same images from the english page...

When translating, the message is:

And last thing I noticed, in http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/File:Fr_Login_form.jpg my page is not listed in the section File links

There could be a solution (I'm thinking about something like is in place for links), I'll have a look a it tomorrow.

Yeah I saw for the links but now you have to deals with files ^^'

Okay, thanks for the great work :) I've been inactive in translation for a while but I'm still here and loving SMF ;D

You can correct my page with the images when you finished =) I'm not able to delete my uploads, or rename the files if you change this ;)

I think you did well, Deathsign.  It takes a little while for the "what links here" to be updated -- something about load on the system.
Emanuele is pretty clever with this stuff. He'll get it sorted.

I decided to keep it much more simple in that case! :P
It's almost the same as the image link: it's just curly brackets instead of square and a pipe (|) instead of the colon (:).
The file name can be anything, I would just suggest to decide a format and keep it across all the languages for consistency (I would suggest filename_code.jpg/png, in this case for example login_form_fr.jpg, etc.).

I changed the pages, I didn't touch the files for now.

Yep it was just a question of time :)

In this case I totally agree with you :)

Nice, thank you  :D

Updated the first post with more detailed instructions on how to request to be added to the translate group for the OM.

4kstore asked me to be added to the list.

Thanks emanuele.

Question: why not all the pages are translatable since the time? what is doing the doc team?  Thanks.

Gravutrad,

On translatable pages on the wiki -- it took a lot of work by emanuele to make them translatable.
More work than should be required.

This problem began because of some unknown problem with the translation "extension" to the wiki.

I think that what is really needed to fix the problem is to update the wiki to the current version, and to the current version of the translate extension.
Before doing that, we need to be able to install a test wiki, with these extensions, in the same environment that the current one is running.
We do not currently have people to set this up so we can test it.

If we can update the wiki, we can look at making more pages translatable with the translate extension.  Until then, it would be quite difficult.

bumping this as a reminder for those doing translations, you are more then welcome to translate other pages into your language but they would need to be done manually and without the use of the translation extension. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for this update.

copy/paste text and translate on the new page, open 2 browsers/tabs and translate as you go etc

since the translation extension is not going to be used on all pages some manual work will be required

My suggestion wasn't in this sense. If you edit manually, you need to edit the page concerned by the language like this:

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Profile/fr

the "fr" system must be known and indicated. (cause the extension shows the traduction bar at the top, but the pages which aren't implemented like this don't show it. So it must be explained before to any translator.)

yes the translator would need to add their language abbreviation to the page name when starting their translation in the new page if the page does not use the translation extension.

  • How to edit link text in wiki?
For example, on Personal messages page, when translating you will see:
Code: [Select]
===Options===
See the [ [Personal Message Options]] section of the [ [profile]].
To change link text just use code like this:
Code: [Select]
===Options===
See the [ [Personal Message Options|Link text]] section of the [ [profile|Link text]].

I can't get the above to work for Personal Message Options - the link keeps taking me to the English version, even after entering the translation. By the way, how did you enter the above code in your post? - every time I try, I get an error message here saying that the forum can't find the link to Personal Message Options! I was trying to include the line as it is now shown in the wiki - the link for the profile has changed, using {{}}. This one actually works.

he has put spaces between the brackets otherwise it will look for a matching thread/user name that matches on the forum.

for your other issue, i will need to contact emanuele and see if he has any ideas. it has been a while since the translation extension has been used so it may take time to find an answer.
