Karma Icons
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:21:55 AM »
I have been trying to change the Star.gif image on my forum. But I am not able to add files to the Theme index. I want to replace the star with little anchors. I have tried using a URL string but all I get is: *.

Any advice?

Just looking at the "*" image in your forum, it's got an address of

Code: [Select]
http://www.funlanta.com/Themes/default/images/http://icons.iconarchive.com/icons/diveandgo/diving/32/anchor-icon.png
..which suggests you've set the image as a full URL rather than a filename in the name setup

Okay, I have removed the URL and replaced it with the name of the image. But which file do I use to place the new image which will be the new Karma points?

You'll need to upload the anchor-icon graphic file to the /Themes/default/images folder.

You've named it in your setup as anchor-icon but when you upload it you'll probably call it anchor-icon.png - it'd be that full name that you quote in your setup screen when naming the image to use :)

Good luck

I suppose I am a complete idiot but when I do to the Modify Themes page I am not allowed to add a file, but merely look at a list of the files there. Please see below:

You'd use the same method to get the anchor file uploaded as you used when you uploaded the SMF package itself; pretty sure the admin control panel won't directly upload a file to one of your theme folders. I use FTP for mine, tho you can also use cPanel (or equivalent) (=the control system your host will/should have given you access to)

Okay, I have followed all these instructions. No anchor yet. Does the FTP have to update once a day or something?

FTP is the protocol used to transfer data between source and target. If you've uploaded your anchor file to that folder then it'll take effect immediately, subject to you possibly having to refresh your browser.

It looks like you haven't uploaded it yet

Code: [Select]
http://www.funlanta.com/Themes/default/images/anchor-icon.png
.. gives a 404 (not found)

I put the anchor image in both the FTP icon file. I then typed in the name of the file under Edit Member Groups Page (anchor-icon.png).

That should be it, right?

Yep. Inspecting the graphic on your website shows the URL I quoted above, so you got that bit right. You just haven't uploaded the physical file to that location  :o

My FTP set wizard test just failed so it could be an FTP set up issue.

I put the image in four different files in FTP, that's the physical file, right?

Does my database path info need to reflect my FTP name.

My forum is still not able to pull the new file (icon) from my FTP.

Thanks,

What FTP client are you trying to use? Do you have the username & password of an FTP account at your host? Do you have a cPanel account?

Great stuff. Now, with that anchor file on your PC/laptop/whatever, use Filezilla to send it over to that folder  8)

I placed the file into the FTP files and then told my Forum the name of it in the Edit Membership section, is that what you mean?

With an FTP client you have to initiate a transfer. I don't use Filezilla but if it's anything like a standard FTP client you get your connection to the host (which you say you have) then you 'send' the file over to that connection, after you've pointed the target at that folder.

How did you get your SMF files onto your host space?
