Sorry for the double posts, but it's been a couple of days since the last reply. I understand you are all busy, but I would at least like an email saying it might be a while before you reply. It's the same if you don't want me as part of the team. If you don't want to accept my offer, then I don't mind, I just want to be told about it.

I am wondering, however, how many people outside the translator team are actually interested in obtaining a "Pirate Speak" language to put on their forum for Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19th?  I am currently working on this, and hope to be finished with it within the next couple of weeks.  Even after translating phrases, I'm having to do tweaking to make sure everything is good for everywhere that string is used, and I'm being careful to make it as authentic as possible.  The automatic translators online are horrific, and just don't seem to do it proper justice.  I'm writing my own translation program, that will be designed to read in an SMF language file, and output a new language file with the proper translation.  It will make sure it doesn't start translating until after the assignment operator on a line ("="), and will also ignore HTML keywords within HTML tags, and will ignore URL addresses so that links are not broken.  This will make it possible to translate language files that come with mods that I haven't installed, so that people who write mods can make a pirate language easily available for their mod.

I don't believe anyone is interested in making 'official not-real language' packs available through the site, as there was at least one other language pack that was developed through that sort of method but not allowed on the main languages page.

I can't believe that this was dragged up from almost one year ago to ask for pirate talk  !  I obviously can't speak for the translation team here, but if I'd been asked if I wanted such a package in my old job, the answer would have been a definitive no.  I suspect that there's more than enough to do with real languages on SMF, without adding invented ones.

Sure there is, but if people want to do so, why not? Google does, by the way, have some support for such things.

Is there really sufficient demand for that sort of thing?  If there is I must be out of the loop.

The reason why not would simply be additional work load, and, from my point of view tedious (working with pirate language that is), but if someone really wanted to do it, I'm not going to stop them.

That's the point, demand != supply. If someone wants to go ahead and do it, that's up to them. They believe there is demand, and just because it isn't widespread demand doesn't mean there isn't demand for it.

People do things for the craziest reasons, including Google.

I don't think so FB has Pirate Language its fun to use sometimes

Actually we got that, it started as a fun project. But currently we don't have dedicated person working on it. Its still fun
