Kiran,
I replying as nobody has replied to you yet, but hopefully somebody will.
I'm having a little bit of difficulty in understanding what you are asking, but I'll try.
If for example to have the domain name of www.kiranssite.com (whoo, nobody has registered that yet!)
Then, you would need to create an empty directory called "forum". You can do this with ftp programs or even with many control panels that come with webhosting.
You would then upload the SMF installer to the "forum" directory that you have created, and start your install.
Then, your forum would be in "www.kiranssite.com/forum" instead of "www.kiranssite.com"
Very often a "sub forum" is what you might call a "child forum" - this is something that you can set up in the Admin section of the forum. So, when you create a new board like "Remote Control" you can set it so that it is a child board of "Boat". Then people can visit that board of "Remote Control" as a "sub forum" of "Boat".
In the same way, you can set up boards that only certain groups of people can visit too. For that you need to look at board permissions, and the usergroups that people are in.
Finally, if I've totally misunderstood you, then I apologise, but let me know what you mean.

Have a look at the below article, it explains all the details you need to know to install a forum, once this is done you can install a portal mod from the mod site to create a website around your forum.
