Members Can Delete Their Posts In Closed Threads
poolhall:
It's regarding SMF 2.0 Beta 4.
I just found out that if regular members are allowed to delete their own posts, they are able to do so even if the target thread is closed. :o
Is it the supposed behavior or a bug?
Oldiesmann:
Locking a topic just prevents people from replying to it. If they have permission to delete their own posts, then they will be able to do so even if the topic is locked.

But if regular member have permission to modify their own posts, then closing the thread WILL prevent them from modifying them. So why is the difference?
greyknight17:
The purpose of closing/locking a post is so no new replies can be made to it from regular members. If they have the permission to delete their own posts and it's part of the locked topic, they will be able to do so. A way around this is to disable that permission and have them contact a mod or admin to delete a topic instead.

This is exactly what Oldiesmann said. But I still don't understand why delete and modify are treated differently - if a thread is closed, you can't modify your posts even if you have a general permission to modify your own posts.
I have always thought that besides the reasons you named, another purpose of closing/locking a thread is preserving the current state of the thread. At least, this is what my experience with phpBB tells me.
