Messages not appearing

I'm moving from a discus forum to an existing SMF I've stripped all the message out of the HTML file and got them into a CSV format and uploaded the CSV file to my MySQL database, I can see the messages in the database but when i go to the forum the message don't appear. Can anyone tell me what the problem is or is there something i should do first before they will appear? 

Any help is much appreciated.

By messages are you saying you imported threads? If so have you uploaded the CSV in the same table structure with all of the elements that SMF uses?

Yes I have colin.

I worked out why the message were not appearing.

 As well as altering the smf_message table I had to also alter the smf_topics table too, once I did this the messages started to appear.
