forum is not allowing posts at all - HELP
tngold:
Hello,
I have removed all IP blocking so you can get in to test... problem is,,, all the captcha is on but allowing all the spammers right in anyways. Our only recourse to slow them down a bit was to begin blocking by regions... I hate to do it, but you know how they are.
The test account is set up:
user test
pass; tester
You will be able to see all the posts, but not to submit anything.
MrPhil,
We have no regular post box, like the one I am in now... it will only bring up the quick reply box no matter what I try.
Nothing that I know of has a print mode setting. I found that very odd also.
I have even tried to manually edit the theme config, and it is like nothing was changed. I am not sure where it stores the changes.. if they are stored in the db, then fine, I can go look for them, but I didn't see anything about that. I see default config settings are set, but I can't seem to change them to ad the regular rich text reply box, or anything else I try to set.
we have suexec, and phpsuexec running on the server, so the default 777 permissions that come with the forum had to be changed to 755's. But I did this after things were not working,,, so that didn't cause the problem. I thought perhaps it was a security error, but that wasn't it.
The most odd thing, is it all worked - I mean we could post.. the regular posting box was never there though, and I have tried to get it, but fail with every attempt.
I look forward to any feedback anyone has.
My only resport at this point is to looks all new posts since 4-20, as that is when the backup was taken before the forum just stopped working. So it has been dead int he water for some time, and my club members are getting all over me, but I keep hitting dead ends with it
Thank you,
TiM L

Hello,
Are you sure this isn't working? I just made a post fine with the account you created. Here is a link if you haven't deleted it already: http://cokercreekgpaa.com/forum/index.php/topic,1019.0.html

Hi Colin,
That is one of the things that has come up... the newest members are able to post. No other members or admins can...
This is what I get when trying to respond to your test:
The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
The message body was left empty.
it seems like any of the members moved over from the old forum, are the ones unable to post. Spammers that keep coming in droves can.
I can not find anything to change the regular members permissions that will hold up. I do admit, I am very new to this forum program, and do not fully understand how all the different user groups and permissions work, but anything I try makes no difference.

MrPhil:
I too was able to make a reply post to Colin's (?) 'test' post. I see you have no Quick Reply, just the Reply button.
BTW, I see your time is EDT+5 (BST?). You might want to fix your default timezone (or, as a fallback, the system hours offset). Also, the CAPTCHA on posts is horrendously hard to read. I had to refresh it several times and listen to the audio several times.
Pan for gold? Nah. There's so much stuff in my backyard stream that it's a danged nuisance!
Ah! Previously existing members can't post, but new ones can. Perhaps SMF is waiting for some kind of validation response from the (old) users? You might be able to go into phpMyAdmin and one time mark everyone as validated, if that's what's happening. Offhand, I'm not sure what field in "members" that is. Is everyone a member of a group with reasonable permissions? You might want to compare the "members" record for "test" against one of the old members and see if there's something set oddly.
Colin:
Yeah, if you aren't to comfortable with accessing the database directly or the permissions I am sure Mr. Phil or I would be happy to take a look.
