Accessing gender on all profile pages?

I'm trying to access the member's gender on any page with the profile_sm.gif, to change the profile icon to reflect gender instead of using the gender icons themselves.  This is easy on Board posts and Instant Messages.  Its also easy on Profile Info->Summary.  But I can't figure out where its pulling this data from to get at it on Profile Info->Show Stats/Posts, etc. (and would rather, if possible, avoid editting the Source files, though if that's where I have to go, I will- I just wanted to avoid altering the base code).

Currently, you can't without modifying code - but this brings up a rather good point, doesn't it?

Themes should be able to do this.

Gah, sorry, I misunderstood that reply, so this post was originally trying to clarify what I was trying to do.

But if I have to go edit the Source files, then I suppose that's what I'll try.

Well, my intention is to change the source files so you don't have to edit them in the future ;).

Cool.  I've put in some rather ugly hacks to get it functioning now, but would love it to be included in base code so I don't have to reproduce it in every update  :)
