How to share large amounts of files with users

Hello,

I'd like to upload several hundreds of files to my site, and only give my users the ability to download them. Is there a system that would allow me to do that? I did look through the mods but didn't find much... am I missing something?

Well you can use attachments and set permissions, or you could try a mod like this...

If you set up a Downloads System with the correct permissions for this, it'll do exactly what you subscribed :)

We use a download mod in our SMF forum for our appliance repair service manuals.
Guest can view the download pages, but only members have permission to download.

Regular members also have a daily download limit of three and our 'Technician' member group has a daily download of six service manuals a day.

Seem to work well for us.

I have also set up a http://dropbox.com pro account to share service manuals with a select group of technicians that help out on our site.

@Tony: huh, great minds and all that ;) I guess you'll be happy to see we're running SMF in our community (which is pretty big and active, btw!). You'd be more than welcome to join!

/ok, enough evangelizing. I'll give Nibogo's mod a try, I've tried his other mods and they're pretty good (if rather expensive). Attachments wouldn't work, because we're talking about too many files (actually, issues of old magazines... you get the idea). In that respect I'd need to upload the files via FTP and have whatever subsystem pick them up...

@Yoshi: damn, I'm banging my head against the wall now, I *knew* I was missing something, and indeed I was forgetting the term "Downloads System"!

@ApplianceJunk: can you tell me which mod you use? [EDIT] ah, ok, in the preview mode your sig did not appear...
