Please Help! I am in trouble (Database server name)

I have SMF installed on my website for several years and it has been running without a problem.
My web hosting firm, Little Oak, sends me this email recently, saying they have changed how the database should be referred to:

"............you may need to change how your web site accesses MySQL. This account may have MySQL databases due to installation of one of the Popular Scripts such as Wordpress or Joomla.
All connections to MySQL will be required to be made through the host name, smartears.mysql.guardedhost.com. Your web site will no longer be able to access MySQL through localhost, mysql.littleoak.net, mysql.guardedhost.com, or any other host names ..........."

where smartears refers to my account. I sent their support an email for clarification, but they just repeated the above.

So, I looked at the SMF settings and found ADMIN-->SERVER SETTINGS -->DATABASE AND PATHS
Server on which the database resides: mysql-host
I changed mysql-host to smartears.mysql.guardedhost.com and saved it.

This happened to be an error and now the forum says it is unable to connect to the database. So I cannot reset it to the original, either!

What do I do?

I uploaded repair_settings.php and accessed it on a browser, and it shows at the top of the page:
"Some settings are not being shown because the MySQL connection information is incorrect."

Thus, it is not showing just the piece of info that I need to correct, namely, the server name.

I am stumped!

If you can ftp or use your host's file manager, you could edit that info into the settings.php file.

A correction:
It is showing MySQL server name. But that doesn't help.
I had changed a setting under ADMIN --> DATABASE AND PATHS
server on which the database resides: mysql-host
I changed the mysql-host to something else.
How do I go back and change it back? How do I get to that setting? I am not able to connect to the database now.
