Upgrading your PC

(1/8) > >>

Big P:
My computer has now reached the 3 year old mark and I've decided it's time to upgrade it. My current specs are as follows:
- 700mhz P3 Processor
- 128mb Ram
- 512mb Pagefile (on a partitioned drive)

I'm hoping to upgrade for as cheap as possible. So, I've been thinking of upgrading to a AMD Athlon. I saw a 2.6ghz processor for €160. A decent motherboard for around €80. I'd also need to get DDR Ram which I could get 512mbs for €89. I also wanna get a new HD. I could get a 80gb one for €80 or 128gb one for €99.

Could anyone else lead me to perhaps a website where I could get a special (and CHEAP) bundle deal or even seperate deal for upgrading? How much have you paid for your computers? Hopefully I can upgrade my PC ASAP before all my money is gone!

pretty close to mind, i was using PIII 733 (almost 3 yrs old), and just upgraded last weekend
i bought AMD Athlon XP Barton 1.8GHz, i recommend getting barton cuz its using 512 cache instead of 256 (older athlon XPs)
512 DDR, Asus A7V8X-X, a new case with 350watt PS, and Radeon 9600
spent about CAD$650 (the most expensive one is the vid card)
u might have to get a new power supply, since i heard AMD needs at least 300watt, more is better

i dont know any european sites for computer parts though :|
i wanna get a new HD too, but no money atm :P

Not sure about overseas shipping (or if they do) but I've always used newegg.com for the pcs I build.

I'm behind on processors (xp 1900) but I built it top of the line at the time, so it still flies like a demon.  And YES, I recommend AMD.  I will never use Intel again...(except for my server!)

Not sure if newegg.com will ship overseas. They wouldn't ship to Canada when I wanted to order some things so I just bought from a couple local stores. Picked up 1GB of RAM and an 80Gb drive to add to my existing 30GB.

In February I rebuilt mine (defunct original Athlon 600 and Slot A motherboard) with:

MSI KT3 Ultra2-R motherboard, £75
Athlon XP 2000+ (1.67GHz) CPU, £64
Heatsink/Fan, £17
2 x 256MB (cheaper than 1 x 512MB!) PC2700 DDR, £70

From Priceless Computing in Glasgow (note £ not Euros). Don't know if they ship to Republic of Ireland (I took my car into Glasgow because I was in a hurry!), but worth a nosey at http://www.pless.co.uk/.
