Linux Flavours?

(1/5) > >>

Jeff Lewis:
Anyone have experience with multiple Linux distros and have a favourite?

I'm deciding between Mandrake and Red Hat (for personal use to mess around with).

mattsiegman:
Mandrake is the only one I have experience with.  Its nice, and good if you just want to play with Linux

[Unknown]:
Red hat has a more professional feel... and it's always worked great for me in the past.  Mandrake is another good one...

My brother looked at practically every one, and we both agree those two were the best.  I forget the runners up... but...

(and, re the other topic - yes, Red Hat has a graphical interface... a pretty nice one too.  And, yes, it works with GNOME, KDE, etc.)

Spaceman-Spiff:
mandrake is more user friendly, red hat is more business-oriented
if you're looking for something more compact/less extra stuff, use slackware (only 1 cd)

i heard KDE 3 is really good, but i havent tried it, still running mandrake 6.2 on dual boot >_<

Jeff Lewis:
I was going to perhaps try JAMD Linux which is built off of Red Hat...
