Unfair, sweeping, it’s true it is unkind.
But also Peter you need to understand the clients point of view, and not always the dev’s view.
I do understand that most dev’s gives time and hell to these free projects, with often not much in return, but that they know.

But I also believe if a company or an organization can’t deliver something in a reasonable amount of time, they should admit it, no matter what it is, and not keep people with foggy statements.

So it goes on both ways, forum user need to understand the mechanism behind these projects, but at the same time, these organization need to be more considerate with software's that needs to be up to date, for the sake of the users and themselves too.

It was my opinion, it doesn’t mean that phpBB is crap, let’s put things clear here, phpBB was the runner up in my forum software choices.
I just don’t like the way they are handling this delay, and it’s my right to make it clear, like it’s your right not to like my opinion.  ;)

For sure, but (to play devil's advocate rather than make a dangerous value judgement) we could also argue that we're talking more about consumers than clients when dealing with free products of this nature.

So it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that I have no quibble with these sentiments when expressed in this more moderate manner.

And I'm also happy to agree with you there! :)
