Populate first post with text-based template

(1/2) > >>

Shonver:
I am a mod on a forum using SMF 2.0.2.

I would like to know if it is possible to pre-load some text into the first post of a thread on a specific board. Specifically, on our forum Classifieds: For Sale board I want to insert a text template like below in the first post of a new thread.

Is this possible?
How? (I'm not asking for a turtorial, I just want a guideline that I can pitch to the Admins on our forum: doing my homework).

It should be simple text that the poster can edit for their own requirements.

--- Quote ---Description:
Make:
Model:
Quantity:
Price:
etc....
--- End quote ---

That might be a bit tricky.

You see, all topics are controlled by the same file(s).

So, as things stand, you'd have that template appear in every topic, not just those in one board.

I've no doubt that it COULD be done. But, I suspect it'll all be down to some nifty coding.

With that in mind, I'll shift this to the Coding board and see if anyone can figure this one out.

Of course, though, you'd need to check with the board's admin, to make sure that they don't mind doing this kinda thing.

Ha!

Just had a message from a very strange person...

Take a look at this:

That might just do what you're wanting... :)

Thanks, K@

It might be a solution, though it seems more complicated than I had in mind.

Hopefully there will be other suggestions for comparison.

Well, that's one of the advantages of using a mod, as long as you/he remembers the ol' "Backup" thing.

Your admin can back up, install the mod and try it out.

If it's not what is required, you can remove it. :)
