Ideas for Upgrading current SMF forum to add News articles to Front Page

Droozy:
best way to add a front page including reviews, news articles etc, on top of the existing forums.  Looking for ideas really.

Background:
existing gaming SMF forum using EOD MW2 Theme/ with shoutbox etc.

I believe that Simple Portal has a pre-configured block, to do exactly that, Droozy.

I suspect that other portals may, too, if that helps?

ANY Portal have predefined blocks and a Front page .. but other then Simpleportal have other (and more) features  ;)

I've only had experience of SP, which is why I said that I thought others might, too. :P
