Hi all. Could use a little help editing the default index.template

Hi all.  What I'm looking to do is move my index.template around a little bit.  I've already removed the option to collapse the header.  So, I'd very much appreciate if someone could give me a hand with a few edits.  What I'd like to do:

1. move user info to a right justification in line with the logo.
2. move the search box to a right justification in line with the tabs.
3. delete the news altogether.
4. remove the added space between.

I'm using the default theme and quite like its design.
