Hostgator to Godaddy..........Godaddy to Hostgator?
« on: January 11, 2009, 02:59:29 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to put adsense on my site

Google gave me these directions

Creating a CNAME record:

   1. Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com [nofollow].
   2. Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. You'll be directed to the Manage Domains page.
   3. Click the domain that you'd like to use with AdSense for domains.
   4. Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records in the box entitled Total DNS Control.
Note: Adding entries to the Manage Subdomains section does not create a CNAME record.
   5. Click Add New CNAME Record. If you've already created a CNAME record for the address, click Edit next to the existing CNAME record.
   6. Step 1: In the 'Host Name' field, enter 'www'
Step 2: In the 'Points to Host Name' field, enter pub-xxxxxxxxx.afd.ghs.google.com (where pub-xxxxxxxxx is your unique ID listed on the AdSense setup page)
Step 3: Leave the default value in the 'TTL' field.
   7. Click OK, and then click OK again. If you're editing an existing CNAME record, click OK.

Your CNAME record is now configured to point to Google. Please now follow the steps below to set up your A record.
Creating an A record:

   1. Sign in to your account at www.godaddy.com [nofollow].
   2. Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. You'll be directed to the Manage Domains page.
   3. Click the domain that you'd like to use with AdSense for domains.
   4. Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records in the box entitled Total DNS Control.
   5. Click Add New A Record. If an A record already exists for the address, click Edit next to the existing A record.
   6. Step 1: In the 'Host Name' field, enter the @ character.
Step 2: In the 'Points To Ip Address' field, enter the IP address 216.239.32.21
Step 3: Leave the default value in the 'TTL' field.
   7. Click OK, and then click OK again. If you're editing an existing A record, click OK.
   8. Follow steps 5 through 6, adding three more records using the IP addresses 216.239.34.21, 216.239.36.21, and 216.239.38.21

I have godaddy and I host through hostgator

That option to click on the DNS Control is not available

I called godaddy and they said call hostgator

Hostgator said send the instructions to hostgator support

The guy from hostgator told me it looks like google wants me to host with somone else!

When I hung the phone up I realized I need to learn how to do this, I might need to do it for another site.

I really don't know what DNS Contol means.

Can someone please tell me how to do this and why it won't let me click on DNS Control on my godaddy account?

What the heck are you trying to do?

Is your domain registered with GoDaddy?  And you use Host gator for hosting?

I don't know why you would need to do ANY of that to put adsense on your site... you might want to verify with google what you need to do.

Oh, Google DOES want you to do all that! I have an account at Go Daddy for most my domains, and they make it easy to do this stuff.

I registered one other domain somewhere else and oh what a dang headache. I've not been successful yet!

My only suggestion at this point is to keep your domains with Go Daddy!

P.S. There is a way to transfer a domain name to yourself or another from one domain registrar to another. And that is what I am going to do!

@youngsequan - It appears that you have Google Apps  or AdSense for Domains confused with Adsense for your site.   None of this is required to put Adsense on your site.  It is required if you are adding AdSense for Domains.  I really don' think that was what you were wanting.
