Massive power outage!!!
Killer Possum:
Now the they are saying hackers (mixed with the recent worm) could be the cause of this :o That's why the software that was supposed to control this from spreading so widely faild and now it's spread :(
Killer Possum:
Well that is what happens with any news companies ;) I know from experience of hearing many different things before it's aired on the news then here more things there after. News companies just go off of whatever they hear to keep the attention of the view :-\
morph:
Now that i realize that my hosts servers are in New York, i'm hoping they backed it up just in case it was fried :(.
Tim:
It just shows how much western culture is dependent on electricity.
Douglas:
Enough speculation, let's get the FACTS out here.
It's being said that there was a power grid failure in the Niagara, NY Power facility. Because the facilities around the NY area are dependent on the Toronto power facility to maintain continuity within the grid, if one goes down, the others are supposed to pick up the load.
Hackers? HAH! I'd believe a government conspiracy before I would believe that hackers are responsible for this.
Anyways, the power outtage is probably the direct result of a severe failure to maintain and upgrade the electrical power system due to increased growth by both Canada and the US.
Ottawa and Toronto, Canada - Blackouts were reported in Toronto, in the capital of Ottawa, Windsor near Detroit and North Bay.
Albany, NYC - Much of state without power, including New York City. In New York's five boroughs, subways and buses stopped; traffic lights were out. People poured out of skyscrapers and started trudging home on foot.
Erie, PA - Power went out to much or all of Erie, Forest and Venango counties, in the northwestern part of the state, according to emergency management officials.
Detroit, MI - Power was out from Detroit to the state capital in Lansing. Detroit Metropolitan Airport remained open with some delays. The outage closed the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel between the United States and Canada.
Toledo and Cleveland, OH - Power was out across a wide stretch of northern Ohio, from Toledo to Cleveland. Other cities reporting power outages included Akron, Elyria, Mansfield, Sandusky and Tiffin.
New Jersey - At least 1.5 million people in central and northern New Jersey were without power late Thursday and there was no train service for homebound commuters.
Some parts of Connecticut - Some areas of the state lost electric service completely, affecting 58,000 customers, according to local utility. Fairfield County and shoreline towns appeared to be the hardest-hit.
