Douglas:
I was at work, working for Genuity, an internet backbone company.
Lost three Engineers that day, don't even know which tower they were in (facilities in both buildings, same floor). My poor girlfriend was in shock (she's from NY), I couldn't even get her to pick me up from the train station, I had to take a cab home.
Yes, I came home early, and we watched news all throughout the day and the next day.

I was showering for work... my wife told me a plane crashed into the tower. I remeber thinking that is an odd accident. But then the other hit and we started seeing video ont he news and speculation of terrorists attacks. I called my brother becuase he and his wife were set to fly out for their honeymoon that morning. Luckily they had not left or they would have benn stuck inan airport somewhere. We drove into work listening to the radio the whole way. Not much work got done that day as there was always someone walking around with an update, or people hanging out in the break room talking.
I remember... it was by far the worst thing that has happen to the country in my lifetime.. perhaps many lifetimes. I hope nothing like this ever happens again... but it will never be forgotten. Best wishes go out to those that lost someone that day.
Killer Possum:
I was half awake in front of the TV (fell asleep there that night), I had the TV on through out the night (helps me sleep) and was zoning in and out of sleep (you know how it goes when you are just waking up) and I saw the first plane hit on the news channel I was watching and I pretty much though I was dreaming so I closed my eyes again then about a minute or 2 later I sat up really fast and was like HOLY CRAP!!!
It was a pretty sad day, sad day at work too cause it was really dead errr slow :o
Juvenall Wilson:
30 seconds after the first plane hit, I got a call from my girlfriend Michelle about it. She didn't say what happened, but insisted I get up and go turn on the tv. Not thinking much of it to be honest, I took my time, brushed my teeth and went to turn on my TV. As always, Cartoon Network was the last thing I was watching so my set was there. I giggled at a rerun of Dexter's Lab for a second then fliped to a local news station. I remember just being in total shock as I watched one of the towers burning. The thought that burned into my mind at the time was "What kind of idiot flys a plane into a building. Retard." Then a few minutes later, I sat in horror as the second plane hit.
"Oh no..this isn't an accident is it?" I thought to myself.
My next thought was to start making calls. I have a lot of friends in the NYC area and 3 of them work at the towers. None of my calls made it through. The lines were just packed. Just as I gave up in frustration, the news flashed to the Pentagon where another plane had crashed. This was the moment I shared the same thought as the majority of the world.."Oh f**k.."
At this point, I had all of my tv's pulled out and in one "command center" so I could watch everything I could. Just as I was setting up the last tv, I heard what sounded like a huge snap from my big tv..the first building was coming down.
The friends were all ok by the way. One was on vacation in Mexico and the other two were smart enough to get the hell out of the building when the first plane hit (they worked on the lower floors so it "wasn't a big deal" as they put it).

I remember this day too. I was in the office then, in my place this was around 4 h pm. One of my coworkers got a phone call from his wife and told it to me. I could not believe it, it sounded so absurd to me, but then addressed the website of a very reliable newspaper. This site was not accessible (I suppose overloaded) which made me nervous, so tried a less reliable small province papers site. There were photographies from the burning towers. I was very shocked and was sure a war had started and could not work any longer. I felt a strong need to take my girl home from the nursery and went to take her asap. I remember the loads of traffic, it took hours until we were home again. The whole night I watched tv and radio, also the next days each free minute.
