MrPhil:
If you're happy with using Win 7 on your PC, keep it. You do NOT have to install Linux on your PC in order to work with a Linux web server. I run Windows on my PC and work with Linux sites all the time.

Once you're an advanced webmaster, and want to delve into the deeps of Linux, go ahead and install Ubuntu on a separate disk partition on your PC, with "multiboot" so that you can switch at will between booting Win 7 and Ubuntu. You might even install some sort of "VMware" so that you can run Win 7 and Ubuntu simultaneously, but that's for very advanced users. In any case, make a backup of your PC before installing VMware or Ubuntu, as you will probably mess it up at least once.

Thanks for your advices, I really appreciate it!I learn a lot.  Yes, I'm comfortable in win7 and I don't want to dive in linux since this is my first forum. Ok, so I don't need to install linux, I'm gonna cancel my windows host plan and get a linux based hosting plan. I can run that linux based even I don't have to install linux? I look the Review thread webhost thread, it's make me confuse so many webhosting site. What are the things I look for or needed to host SMF Forum?

As Appy Junk said, have a look around, here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=4.0

Read the comments and get a feel for what appears to be right, for what you want.

Ask questions, if anything's unclear. :)

Yes, you can operate a Linux server from a Windows PC. No problem.

The only advice/warning I would give is that you need to become somewhat familiar with Linux-style permissions for your directories (folders) and files, as they're quite different than Windows. I have some information in my sig > FAQs > Proper Permissions. It's pretty much rote -- 755 for directories, 644 for files. 444 for files you want to make Read Only (such as Settings.php). If SMF complains that it can't write to a directory, increase the permissions on that directory to 775 (and as a last resort, 777). Likewise 664 and 666 for files SMF says it can't write to. That should cover 99.9% of it.

Linux or Windows box (Linux preferred), Apache or IIS server (Apache preferred), PHP 4 or higher (5.x preferred), MySQL 4 or higher (5.x preferred). Depending on how large you plan to grow your forum and site, look for expandability, no tight resource restrictions, and the ability to upgrade to larger plans as you grow. Being as you're an absolute rank beginner, almost any low-end shared server hosting plan will get you going.

Before you cancel your NoDaddy account, don't they offer Linux hosting (or are they Windows only)? You might be able to get credit for the unspent portion of your Windows hosting plan, and if you got your domain name through them you wouldn't have to spend more to transfer it.
