upgrading from RC3 to 2.0.2

(1/2) > >>

euripides:
HI.
Can this be done without going through the releases between them?
I tried doing it through webinstall and it created an error and I had to re-upload the forum.

do I need to enter maintenance mode first?
should I remove all add ons/packages before upgrading?
what about my theme? Should I revert to a specific theme before the upgrade?

Finally, is it better to do it manually instead of using webinstall?

Thanks!

ѕησω:
Yes
No, but it's a good idea.
No, because when you go straight from RC3 to 2.0.2 it will remove all custom mods, themes, etc.

And finally, manual is always a better idea.

Check out Upgrading SMF if you get stuck.

Thanks! I'll be trying it out soon!

euripides:
ok, one last check.
I have a cpanel server.
can someone please tell me exactly what I need to backup through cpanel before the upgrade?
and is it for sure I don't need to remove the themes, or go to a default theme, or remove the add ons?

Many Thanks!

Colin:
Back up the hard files as well as the database. That way you can quickly restore if something goes wrong.
