"moved" messages

(1/2) > >>

MrPhil:
A couple of requests for the locked single message topics left behind when moving a topic to another board:

* The "Started By" be not the moderator who moved it, but the original starter. This would probably mean keeping two IDs for ownership of the topic/post: the actual owner, which in this case would be the moderator who moved it; and the listed owner, who originally started the topic. For normal topics, they would be the same, and would only diverge when moved or some other exceptional event takes place. The moderator who actually moved the topic would be listed in the message.

This would be desirable because sometimes a moderator needs to move a topic, but doesn't want to seem to be associated with the subject matter. For example, if "RevDodgson" starts a topic "Nude photos of little girls", I would need to move it to the Adult boards (assuming it's even legal). I would not be happy to see the "Moved" topic as being started by me!
* "Moved" topic notices should evaporate after some period of time. It's silly to have them clogging up the boards months after a topic has been moved. How about a 14 day default, globally changeable by the administrator, and overridable on a topic-by-topic basic? This might be a flag or a new table that is periodically checked on a scheduled task so that the database doesn't get bogged down. An "evaporating topics" table might be useful for other purposes, to have specified topics disappear after a while (e.g., calendar-based discussion items).

Arantor:
2. I get. I even did a mod for it.

1. I still do not understand. Why is this such a big deal (noting how often you've mentioned this)? If the moderator moved the topic but does not wish to be associated with it, there's always the possibility of editing titles and so on, or actually not making a topic in the first place.

Antechinus:
2/ Should be default behaviour IMHO. I don't think 1/ is a big deal though. After all, the "Moved" notice is made by the person who moves the thread. It's just a notice, not the thread itself. Presumably, if the thread content is illegal the thread will be deleted.

Thantos:
Re #2: Bug #1111: Auto redirect and expiring redirects

Antechinus:
Could be done in 2.1. In fact I think there has already been discussion about that. Would have to go back and check.
