Membergroup Problem
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:19:13 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm using : SMF 1.1.16

I having trouble creating a new membergroup which restricts access to certain sections of the forum. For some reason it ignores the membergroup thread permissions I gave it and just shows the whole forum!

For example, our forum works like this;

1. Membergroup - Access to nearly all the forum
2. [Name of member] - Access to their own thread named after themselves

These 2 membergroups in combination allow access to the forum plus their own section which has their own thread in which no one else can see.

This works perfectly as I wanted!

I wanted to add another membergroup which allows limited access to certain parts of the forum... a "basic" membership (3) lets say, but for some reason when I do this it totally doesn't work.

I cant understand why one would work and the other wouldn't. I mean the basic access membergroup (3) seems less complicated!

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

So I wanted to clarify what I mean... it seems that possibly its hard to understand.

Our forum is a poker staking forum, and each student has their own section in which they have their own section in which I put a link to their own google spreadsheet so that they can write out their earnings etc. The forum also contains videos, of which now we are offering an access package to new members.

So for example;

The Membergroups are;

Membergroup 1- Poker Membership, Gives access to the forum, including videos and discussion sections.
Membergroup 2 - Results of [name], Gives access to individual results sections.
Membergroup 3 - Video Membership, Gives access to videos only.

Member "Bob" has Poker Membership (1) and Results of Bob (2), 2 Membergroups giving him access to the forum and his own section.

Member Mike has only Video Membership (3) and is Video membergroup.

But for some reason Mike will have access to Membergroup 1 and I suppose Membergroup 3 but 1 overlaps 3 anyways so I'm not sure whether Membergroup 3 is being used or recognized. Either way, I don't understand why Membergroup 3 doesn't work?

I have experimented with changing up the membergroups, and found that removing the Newbie Membergroup from the board membergroup access makes the Video Membergroup (3) work, but then Membergroups 1 and 2 fail to work lol.

Is there something about how the board specific membergroups override membergroups that choose boards?

Anyways I'm totally confused and would appreciate any theories or help, thx

Every member is in a postcount based group, so that means if they are in at least one group that has access to that board, they will see it. ;) What groups have access to the boards you are talking about?
