Help changing forum logo to link back to main website
« on: May 31, 2011, 10:40:09 AM »
So I'll be honest, I'm a complete noob and need help linking the logo for my forums back to the site.  I'm using SMF2 RC5 w/ Blackrain V2 them and am attaching the index.template.php as well.  Any help would be appreciated.

From what I've gathered from googling is that you need to edit that somewhere, but I have no idea where.

Thanks!

Hello there and welcome to smf community.

This should do the trick, just change www.site.com (line 203) to your site link, and upload it back to server.
Let me know if you need further help about this.

Regards.

Tried it, refresh the page so it would ignore cache (even deleted my cache entirely), tried a 2nd browser that I never use on the site to be sure and refreshed it, no luck. Still redirecting back to the forums instead of the home page.

hxxp:forums.paradoxhorde.net [nonactive]  is the site.  The Paradox | Mal'Ganis logo in orange at the top is what I'm trying to redirect.

In index.template.php -

Find this:

Code: [Select]

<td align="center"><a href="'.$scripturl.'" title="', $context['forum_name'], '"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/myslogan.jpg" style="margin: 2px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" /></a>
</td>

Change it to this:

Code: [Select]

<td align="center"><a href="www.yourwebsite.com" title="Your Website Name"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/myslogan.jpg" style="margin: 2px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" /></a>
</td>

Krash;

I actually tried that this afternoon when I was looking at things in hopes that it would work.  Reverted back the first change to original and tried it.  Tried it with the first change still active.   Both ways are still causing it to just loop back to the forum page instead of the main website.

Any other ideas you guys might have?  Thanks again for the help in this.

EDIT - Just to add in too, I also rebooted the website to flush the cache (assuming it would flush it) and it's still redirecting to the forums.

2nd EDIT - Well apparently absolutely no changes are going through as I just changed the logo on purpose to see if it'll display an error and it's still showing the proper logo.  Any idea how to force it to reload the template?

Did you change this?
Code: [Select]
<a href="'.$scripturl.'" title="', $context['forum_name'], '"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/myslogan.jpg" style="margin: 2px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" /></a>to this?
Code: [Select]
<a href="http://www.paradoxhorde.net" title="', $context['forum_name'], '"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/myslogan.jpg" style="margin: 2px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" /></a>Or something different?

Mashby;

Yeah that's what I changed.  As you can tell by my 2 edits just above it looks like the changes aren't actually going in to effect as I did some intentional changes to the myslogan.jpg to myslogan.gif to force it to error out the graphic.

STill not sure how to force it to take the new template.

EDIT - Well thanks for the help folks, it's working now!  I got one of the guys at the host to reboot the site again and it seems all good.  It's like a ghost was possessing things.  Thanks again!

2 Questions:

How can I do the same thing with the Core theme?

Any idea why the Core them isn't doing this? Is it by design? Curve has the image linked, I assume by default.
