Which software is better? Is there a difference. What are the strengths of one versus another?

Definitely SMF :)

It's way more flexible, easier to manage, friendlier to the user (:P) and after all it's FREE!
So why not? :P

I think vBulletin better. vBulletin is really cheap, the support is great, the team is great, it's safe etc

I agree with Yoshi. I'd suggest going with SMF, it's free and much easier to use. :)

I find it hard to believe that anyone would expect someone, here, to recommend VB over SMF...

You're hardly going to get impartiality, now, are you, den? ;)

That's like going to a Ford dealer and asking if Ford or Chrysler cars are best...

Yeah I thought about saying, "Go with vBulletin!". But I couldn't figure out how to put enough sarcasm in there... ;)
