Californian Election

(1/12) > >>

Tim:
It's been postponed because a court has ruled that the voting system, using punch cards isn't accurate enough.
The republican party will appeal this ruling, but we all know why that is.
They couldn't win an election with a good working system ;D (that was a joke ;))

Anyway, why is it that the US still doesn't have a computer voting system?
We had an election in May and I used a computer to submit my vote. There's even talks of developing a system that would allow people to vote through the internet here.

FEAR!  People fear they will be inaccurate.  People fear computers.  People fear "hackers" could fix the vote.  I have to admit... I'm a little afraid of people voting on computers when some can't even program the clock on their VCR.

They should have both for awhile so people can have a chance to try them if they feel like it. and have demonstrations on how to use them.  It can't be that hard... a touch screen, some buttons, a "vote card".  The hardest part of voting is trying to figure out which bastard to vote for.

Some markets around me have installed "self checkout" lanes where you scan and bag your own stuff and pay the machine.  Yet people still stand in line when these lanes are empty.  Its easy if they got over the fear of that touch screen and the computer voice saying "Place the item in the bag".  Same thing with movie tickets... a theater near me has machines to buy tickets your self... yet people will stand out in line when the line at the ticket kiosks is short.

FEAR!

Jeff Lewis:
hehe we have those checkouts as well :) Less human contact for me the better so I use them  :D

As for voting, I wish there was a secure online vote available...I'll drag my rear end out to the polls next month for our provincial election though.

Bouminok:
I perfer the ol' ballot box. I don't like the idea of using a computer for everything, I'd perfer to go round the corner to the shop to do my shopping, rather than order online.
