--- Quote ---Malware May Knock Thousands Off Internet On Monday
Published: July 5, 2012, 3:51 PM
WASHINGTON - Despite repeated alerts, tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their Internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for malware that could have taken over their machines more than a year ago.
The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google.
Internet service providers have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website.

So this seem to have taken place last year and I'm first hearing about it a few days before we could lose our internet service Monday.
I'm always the last to know...

You almost certainly haven't been infected.
This particular nastiness took control of DNS servers and set things up so your computer went through their servers to reach domain names. Once control of those servers was taken by the authorities, there were warnings on Facebook and Google - as mentioned - about you having a virus.
Thing is, you'd see it on every Google search (as I know people who were infected) and if you haven't seen such warnings by now, you're almost certainly not infected by it unless you never go to Facebook or Google (and I'm sure you go to at least one of those!)

Yeah, I saw it on another forum, ages ago.
Checked a few times and I seem to be clear, which is good.

The most intriguing thing of this virus is the hardness of how to get rid of it, some of it's variants are extraordinary hard to detect and destroy... Nothing Linux can't solve, though.
I wonder how many people are ignorant to it :) Have fun, callcenters!

Some good news. :)
