1.x to 2.x database conversion?
(1/1)

Considering that most of the posts on this page are about problems converting the database from 1.x to 2.x due to various mods and edits, could one of the staff PLEASE actually finish helping someone on how to do it? Seems like every thread goes silent when it comes to the staff helping out. I think the staff are busy and very nice people, but this seems to be a large issue and I believe it's worth their time to deal with.
I notice there are many converters for other systems to SMF. Why do we not have a converter for older system to newer, supposedly better system? It's already been coded as part of the upgrade file that most of us can't use; why can't we just get it as a standalone bit? It seems like the only real way to upgrade the database is to upgrade from 1.x to 2.x, copy the new database and import into a fresh install, but...the problem with upgrading is stopping us all. Really, could the staff at least explain why they aren't finishing off the threads they start helping with? If there's an issue with coding or something, it would make us feel better to know you tried. A sticky is probably well past due, as well on the how of converting the database. If you're all just tired of repeating yourselves, that would solve the problem.
Thanks in advance. Hope to see something helpful soon.

It is actually easy to upgrade.
First I would make a backup of your files/database.
Then grab the large install via downloads page for SMF 2.0.2
Next, upload all those files for SMF 2.0.2 to your website.
Once uploaded visit upgrade.php and follow the steps to upgrade your site.
That's it.

No, no...we don't want to use the upgrade package, as I stated because either A. previous mods and edits have broken the ability to upgrade or B. because we want a clean installation. Is there any standalone script to convert the databases?
Alright, to be more clear, what I am asking for, is a standalone section of the upgrade file that ONLY upgrades the databases. In upgrade.php, there's DatabaseChanges() function that should be mostly what I'm looking for, I think. It also uses a few other files which are in the archive. Is there any way to just edit that and repack it into a converter for everyone?
vbgamer45:
Copy the database to another database.
Upload a clean set of SMF files to your website.
Copy the old Settings.php to the new website.
Run the upgrader.

I just don't see why someone can't take the scripts that the upgrade uses and make it work on its own.
VBgamer45, I guess that's the only way to do it. I was hoping not to waste all that bandwidth, but doesn't seem like there's no other way to keep it only server side. Thanks for the attempt though.
