Can anyone tell me what this is under the little awning thing? It looks like some sort of cocoon but I have never seen one like this before.

Looks like a bug pupa of some sort, to me.

You have so many weird creatures, there, that I can only make wild guesses.

Correct, this is in Flint, Michigan. I have just never seen one like this before.

At first sight, I thought it might be the beginnings of a wasp's nest (They're good to have, not bad as many think).

ARG:
I was thinking the same thing until I realized that there is no entry anywhere.
