Marketplace for SM.org

Arantor:
And that last point will never happen, because all that will happen is exactly what happens elsewhere (e.g. XenForo) with people mooching off the community.

As it is, the two people that aren't part of the NPO but that make the most money off SMF mods do so by taking over old mods, and using them as promotion.

It doesn't make it richer to have that happen, if anything it makes it poorer because it actually pushes people out of the market. It is, amongst other things, why I stopped writing mods for SMF.

Yoshi:
This has been handled a couple of times in the Team boards already, including an idea of mine.

CoreISP:
Yes, this will unfortunately not happen due to the various problems coming with it, in particular legal.

Kindred:
basically, it comes down to this:

If SMF allows paid stuff to be sold from this site - or charges people to list stuff on the site, then SMF becomes responsible for that stuff...
We already have users who blame SMF for the failure of themes and mods... if we were collecting money for them, then SMF really would be responsible - and that's not something that would be good for the community or the bank account.

SMF will always be free.
SMF will not (hopefully never) get into hosting paid services or products.
(do note: Charter Membership is not a product, it is a benefit given to anyone who donates $50 or more to the project)

Antes:
Responsible? I don't think that will happen because in the end (lets put everything about money out of this conversation) SM Marketplace (lets say that) will be the place for their users which shows you can buy this SMF also got this (not to your mind we are not making them so there will be no official only (maybe) standart support to them).

But in the end Developed by X / Y / Z not by SM Team. I'm sorry but only idiots can blame SM Staff / Team for those paid works/mods/themes.
