What does your desktop look like?
Old Fossil:
A complete mess.
Can only just see the picture due to all the folders I haven't yet had time to organise.

Almost any Linux distribution aimed at desktop use has decent GUI tools nowadays. Ten years ago, it was a mess, but it's much better now. Application support is what it is. I can choose from several browsers (Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, Midori, Konqueror, Opera), several IM clients (Kopete, Pidgin), several Torrent applications (KTorrent, Deluge, Transmission, Vuze, qBitTorrent), a nice office suite (LibreOffice, KOffice), etc. Of course, anything that is OS X only or Windows only won't run.

I'm using the KDE spin of Fedora, and KDE has always looked a bit like Windows (with GNOME traditionally looking more like Classic Mac OS). I like the default panel layout, so I usually keep that. It wouldn't be too hard to change things around if I really wanted, however.

Not necessarily true? Some programs listed as 'Windows Only' will work with WINE (or something similar), won't they?

Your reflection?

Depends. Some applications work very well, others not so much. Even with WINE, it's not nearly as nice as a native application. It's better to go into Linux expecting Windows-only apps to not work at all.
