why should i use SMF, can i use it for what i need?
Hirsidor:
Hello all,
I am new on this forum so i hope i post my question on the right spot. I wanna know if it is smart to use SMF for the things i wanna use it. You have lots of forum software and I got lost in the difference between forums.
I wanna use it to add a forum to my website where players can talk about their experience and to report changes and bugs etc. it would be best if i could integrate it with my site(still in development). When they hit the forum button i don't want them to go to a new site (I wanna keep the design from the site. Is this possible? So when they are in the forum they can still go back to the homepage of the site. Is this difficult to do with SMF?
I hope i get some answers because SMF looks great and hope it works for me!:D
to watch my site go to: hidorma.com
cya around!
Hirsidor
ps. because this is the "getting started with SMF" place i thought this was the right place to post a new topic. when it is wrong sorry.

Download SMF, install a portal such as TinyPortal. This will give you an opportunity to designate a homepage from the actual forum.

Hello Hirsidor,
I have been using SMF for over 4 years now (since ver 1.0) :o both with and without additional portals (Tiny portal included) and it is basically bullet proof. ;D
There are numerous mods (modifications to the forum) that allow you to do "extra things" (like to know if someone read a PM (personal message) you sent them. :)
I have tried one other forum software previous to SMF and it wasn't even close to being as stable.
Best Wishes, ;)

Ty both for the respons,
I take a look at the mod you gave me. I think this forum is much better then phpbb and much more easy to configure to your own stile.
If there are more tips and trics for me, they are always welcome;).
Colin:
I completely agree. To me the simplicity of the software is a major factor in its success.
