Independant DB upgrade?
darkside:
I have a working version of SMF on my local server but have not got all my posts from the remote forum on there.
My remote (public) version is still running YabbSE 1.5.4.
Question is, can I back up my database from YabbSE and then upgrade it (via phpMyAdmin or similar) and import it into my local SMF db without running the forum upgrade on the remote server?

Well, you can install a fresh YSE to your local server, import your YSE DB and upgrade that or, if you feel like trying something more dramatic, simply import the YSE DB straight to the local SMF install and run the SMF upgrade.php. So it does work and I've done it, but please don't try it on a site that matters without backing up everything first!

If you do that, please copy things from Settings.php over, because things from that are converted as well.

Hi Guys (and thanks),
I have already done the more dramatic route (YSE db -> SMF -> upgrade) and it is running well. I now have a great install of SMF on the local server (with new template and everything). However, as happens, the local db is soon out of date.
Since I am not quite ready to upgrade the remote server, ideally what I want to do is be able to back up my YSE db then drop it into the SMF install.
Then, when I am ready, I have an up to date back of both forums.
Does upgrade.php only modift the db and 'settings.php'?
TIA

Yes, that's all upgrade.php does.
