Serious Issue, or am I being blonde?
Kimmie:
Visible Boards - This allows you to choose which boards this new group will have access to; this is useful so that you don't have to do it later. You may change these at anytime by going to Membergroups / Edit Membergroups and clicking the link [ Show boards ] at the bottom next to Visible Boards.
This setting no longer works for me (in the new creation stage, OR after making the group). If I uncheck a board, that group still has access to it.
What am I doing wrong?
Antechinus:
You have probably allowed them access by more than one membergroup. ;)
Kimmie:
That is where the "inherited from, based off of, by type" settings come into play and is what forces that right? Once the group is made, how do I need to fix that so I am able to deny access to certain areas for that group? Is this where the local/global stuff comes in? (this is so confusing lol)
Antechinus:
You can't actually deny access to boards in 2.0.x. All you can do is not allow it, if that makes sense.
What I mean is if that one of the membergroups allows access to the board, and the person is in more than one membergroup, you can't use the other membergroup as a override for the access granted by the first group. If any of their groups allows them access to a board, they'll have access.
There aren't any local and global permissions in 2.0.x. It's all done with the permissions profiles. These are assigned to each membergroup, for each board. This is seperate to the granting of board access. The profiles only decide what a group can do once it is inside a particular board.
Yes, it is a damned nuisance to set it up so it all works. I hate it. However, once it is set up it does allow quite awesome flexibility in how your permissions work. You just have to get past the headbutt-the-keyboard stage first.
Frankly, given how complex it can be to get it right (depending on what your site needs) I wouldn't inherit anything. I'd write a complete profile for every membergroup/board combination I thought was relevant.
Kimmie:
Well my post count people are only in one group persay, their respective group pertaining to how many posts they have. I don't really have too complicated of a system in that regards. Right now the only person I have placed in an additional group (using the show additional groups feature on their profile) is my other admin.
With that being said, here is what I want to do.
1st, I want to change it so that every post count group I have only has access to certain boards meaning I want to remove some of their access they currently have (which will be the same for all the groups). What is the easiest way to do this?
Next, once they purchase a "subscription", it will then automatically take them out of that post count group. and place them in a new group. This new group I want set up to have full access to all boards. If they let their subscription expire, the site knows to put them back into their respective post count groups which would then change their access again.
Any suggestions on the easiest way to go about changing all of this? lol.
I am also trying to set up a test group because I want to test the subscription feature before I take it live and I wanted to do it this way instead of turning off all access to one of my current groups. This is where i realized I am no longer able to select their board access at the initial start of the group or even what I had created the group and is why I need help lol.
Which brings me to another dilemma I think I will end up having on this. If they are initially in a post count group with limited access, and the subscription moves them to a new group which gives full access, does it see the new group as an "additional group they are in"? If so, which group permissions is it going to use?
