Opting out of a none-post group

Is there a way for members to opt out from a none-posting group?

For instance, member x wants to opt out from the membergroup y. Where can member x go to remove himself/herself from membergroup y?

If the membergroup has a group type set as 'FREE' then they can join and leave it at will.

Joinable groups were not added until 2.0.

So, in short, Liam - if you want groups to be opt-in/opt-out, upgrade to 2.0 :)

Kindred, a suggestion more practical please :P Has anyone in the world of coding done this adjustment for 1.x?

Why is upgrading to 2.0 impractical? 2.0 added ALOT of features which just are not possible with the structure of 1.1
