I'm not using the bridge part of the article anymore.  I only use the edits to index.php and index.template.php

I only add:

require_once('..responsive-child-theme/header.php');

and require_once('../wp-load.php');


I reinstalled wordpress, made these two changes, and I get the same error.  Any idea why?
