Is it possible to convert without FTP Writeable Check?

(1/2) > >>

The Dogs:
Hi,

I've tried the conversion from phpbb and it appears that the smf conversion tool requires an ftp login username and password... to do a writeable check.

The problem I have is, the sites we manage do not have their own ftp login, they are logged into from the root of the server, not the root of the domain.

Is there a way around this.  There's no logic to creating a root of sever login on our servers and to create one would come with other local issues which would render the process too much of an hassle.

Cheers
Dave

Hello The Dogs and welcome to sm.org!

Usually it requires the ftp data only if some files are not writable (should be only Settings.php and Settings_bak.php), once these files are writable it will not ask any more for ftp data.

mmm...well, testing a converter, it doesn't even ask for that permissions... ???

Hi emanuele,

When I ran the converter, it went to stage 2 where it requested an FTP username, pwd, plus path to root/forum - from my memory.  The notification on the page stated that it wanted to do a writable check.

I'd already changed the permissions in accordance with the instructions...

Right now, I'm just about to head out, so typing in a bit of a rush, I'll try to convert this again early next week and update this post with the details... possibly do some screen captures.

It's Friday... Yipee!

Thanks for your help.
Dave

Okay, I'll try to test it again during the weekend. ;)
