Automatic Image resizing

(1/1)

airdave:
I'm sure someone must have asked this question (but i can't seem to find a thread)...

Can I limit a posted image size...or have the image automatically reduced in size when it is posted?

This is my board:
cutandfold.info/cutandfoldforum

I have a request from a member...although I don't actually understand his problem.
Seems he is having trouble viewing some of his posted images on different devices.
Claims that on some screens he can see the whole image, whereas on others the images don't fit the screens.

Sounds like a case of posting too large of an image
and then trying to view it on too small of a resolution?

Anyway...he regularly posts images of 1024x768 or larger from Photobucket.
I would rather my members limit their images to no more than 900px wide so that they fit nicely within the
the Forum frame - since there are still some people out there using 1024px resolution.

(I am asking all my members to post images from external sources and not use the "attachment" feature
since I don't have storage for the attachment files)

But I would like to set a limit on posted images...
say, if they are more than 900px wide, they be automatically reduced in size.
Is this possible with linked images?

hcfwesker:
Admin >  Configuration > Features and Options > Layout

Max width of posted pictures (0 = disable)
Max height of posted pictures (0 = disable)

set the max width and height for both.

Thats what I was looking for and couldn't find...thanks!!

but...does that affect linked images? or just attached images?
I notice an existing thread on the Forum still has large Photobucket images.

It will affect any images in the [*img] from other hosted sites, like photobucket.  Could possibly be that you allow html to be posted and it's not resizing it.

Or just that some pages aren't being cache'd properly, try an F5 refresh on the page, or clear the forum cache.

For Attached Images ...

Admin >  Forum >  attachments & avatars > attachment settings

Maximum width of thumbnails
Maximum height of thumbnails

great! thank you!
