What are these?

Squash:
Why do some of mine have duplicates that look like these and what is the significance of this behind it ~ ? I'm curious because I have a few in my theme files ..... what's up?

SplitTopics.template.php    then below it a duplicate besides the ~
SplitTopics.template.php~

Shambles:
Nothing to worry about. A good thing to have, as it happens.

When I apply a mod that affects one of my php files, it automatically creates a "backup" of the same name, with the tilda suffix. Great if you need an emergency file to restore from  8)

Thank you and good to know.... i couldn't figure out why I had them but it makes perfect sense and glad it does it. Thanks again!!!!
