Moved to new host and lost the messages.
jjfeenix:
OK, we're making progress. The hosting company got the full db imported and it looks like all the messages are back! Yeah!
The next problem is that the avatars and attachments aren't showing up. I thought I straightened out the paths to the avatar and attachments directories (they aren't showing up in red like they were), but when I select the Browse Files and select a link in either Attachments, Avatars or thumbnails, I get popup windows with: 404 - Attachment Not Found
Any ideas on where to start to sort this out?
Thanks,
JohnS
Antechinus:
Easiest way of fixing paths is to run repair_settings.php.

Sorry it's been a while since I got to replying. I'm still having a huge problem with the old messages (before the host transfer) displaying. Any new images/avatars are working fine.
I downloaded all the images from the original server to my local machine (Win7) and I can view them, when I change the extension. So, file corruption doesn't seem to be the problem. I uploaded these myself to the Attachments directory using the proper mode and then changed the permissions on the directories. Still no success.
I've been trying to find a way to verify the status of the older files, via the Admin>Forum>Attachments>Browse Files section. If I click on the name of the newer files, I get a popup window showing the image...it somehow corresponds to an ID number in the URL. If I click on the name of an older image, I get the popup with a 404 File not found message. So, my question is: "Are the image files really in the new directory or not?"
If it's not there, then something isn't correct starting with the transfer of original files from the original host. Years ago, when I transferred hosts, I ran into a problem with the server limiting how many files it will "list/display". Is it possible that this occured again and I just can't "See" all the files that are really in the old host directory? I'm very suspicious because when I look at Attachments and Avatars>File Maintenance>Attachment Statistics it reports: Total Attachments: 26617, Total Avatars: 615. When I look at my directory of downloaded attachments it says 1997 files.
Is there a way to tell from the image ID which filename is being referred to? Can I troubleshoot by reversing the situation? I have a directory with older images but can't find a way to search for the message that corresponds to it, because I can't find a way to search messages for the attachment ID or figure out how those IDs correspond to the file names. I'm very frustrated. Maybe this has all been answered in another thread, but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks again,
JohnS
