Open Attachments in Browser, instead of Downloading them?

(1/1)

Chris.Aynsley:
Hello,

I am using SMF as a intranet for a company that i work for.  There are about 40 employees.

We use alot of Excell Spreadsheets, Word Documents and Editable PDF Documents.

When you add these as an attachment, then when, inside the post, click the attachment, it automaticaly goes to download them.  is there a way, to make the attachments open in the web browser?

Mainly, because some Editable PDF's staff may use 20 times a day, so we don't want them downloading to the computer each time, as the staff will not delete them and the computers will fill up with the temp file.  The files must remain online, and not on physical machines as when they are updated, we only have to change what is in the attachment in the post.

Any ideas?

Chris.

mrintech:
AFAIK, what you are asking is not possible as of now.

You need to use Dropbox or other similar service which allows real-time content update and file versioning

:)

Chris.Aynsley:
Thanks for that.

Do not require realtime update or file versioning, just need the PDF's to Open rather than Save.

You know how some links in website, when you click on them it asks you do you want to save as or open with.  Just like that.

Thanks again,

Chris.

Valkrider:
That is a browser config issue AFAIK rather than a SMF config.

Chris.Aynsley:
Thanks for that.  I check there are settings in IE, that state to automatically save, once disabled, it now asks to save or open.

Thanks.
