What Makes a Good Project Manager?

Now THAT is a discussion worth avoiding. ;)

Might be worth discussing at AAF - http://www.anotheradminforum.com/index.php

Kindred:
Well, being pm of an Open Source project can be a pain I the arse.
I was pm here for a while... But it turns out that the team didn't actually want a pm, so
That is, of course, the hazard of working with a volunteer team on an open source project... No one is compelled to accept anything... Lol

I am also a pm for web development in real life...   That's a whole 'nother ball of wax, since, in that case, I am actually in charge and poor attitude or behavior will lead to poor reviews and possibly job loss.

Yes, you need to listen to the folks on you team, but -- unless you are dough agile/scrum,you also ned to remember that you are the pm and are supposed to have final say for the decisions on the project (as long as it keeps on schedule and under budget). Aile/scrum, is, of course, very different.

Schedule and scope are important parts of the pm process.. Even in volunteer projects, so long as you understand that the schedule will slip.
