New Page Patrolling -- who should be able to do it?
AngelinaBelle:
Anybody can see the new pages created within the past month on the wiki at:
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Special:NewPages
For those on the doc team, we also see some of these pages highlighted in yellow. These are "unpatrolled pages". We then have the option to patrol them, check them out, and mark them as patrolled once we are satisfied. Except for the pages in translation with the translation extension, for which this doesn't work quite right.
At wikipedia, ANYBODY can patrol new pages.
I am thinking about allowing more people to do that here. The next, very easy step, is to allow all SMF team members to patrol new pages.
Allowing all users to patrol new pages would also be very easy. Something in-between would be more difficult, because we'd have to choose some group to attach this permission to, and set up the SMF-wikimedia bridge to tell the wiki who belongs to that SMF group, before I could give that group any new permissions.
So I thought I would start a discussion about new page patrolling. Should EVERYBODY be allowed to do it?

Excuse my ignorance, Boss. What's "Patrolling"?
AngelinaBelle:
Sorry. Here's what they have to say about it at Wikipedia.
At Wikipedia, anybody can patrol any page they didn't actually create.

Ah. I thought everyone could see everything, to be honest.
I'll have a read-up.
Tankoooo!
Illori:
another old topic, seems that only the doc team can mark edits as patrolled. i think this has not been done in the past and IMO i dont think it will be done in the future. as long as the doc team keeps an eye on the edits done and improves or requests improvement as needed i think things will be just fine. given normally there are not a lot of edits to the wiki, but if there were it could easily overload the docs team to make sure all the edits are marked patrolled.
