Hacked website

(1/2) > >>

Exigus:
Hey!

Not sure where to put it, or if it's even something I can get any help with, but would want to check nonetheless.
Quite a while ago the domain this is about expired, however a "hacker" got hold of the site and cloned it.
We know we can't get it back, but my question is; Is there any way at all to back up the site and get a new forum exactly like the old one on a new site?
I would consider it hell to start from scratch. As for the domain it's about; myst-guild.com
The forum part is what we would want recovered if there is any chance at all for it.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Doctor Deejay:
Hi, welcome to SMF! :) You might want to try repair_settings.php out, as long as you still have the backup:
What is repair_settings.php?

Thanks for the swift answer.

So, if not having any backups of anything, there's no chance to extract all the info and recreate the new site, I'm guessing? It's not my own site, just trying to make my own life easier as I'm trying to get a new forum for the guild, and so not sure what host we've used and so on.

In other words, the only chance of recovering the website and getting an easy time setting an exact copy of it up again, would be by accessing the host as admin since no backups are available? Which in this case would be the "hacker" as the first host expired.

I'm completely new to the basics of these things, so sorry for the ignorance, and thanks a lot for replying.

Doctor Deejay:
I am really, really, really sorry, but no, I'm afraid you'd have to start all over again when you don't have backups or access to the old database. :( I've had this problem several times before and it really sucks to start over again, I know. We're always here to help you though, so if you need any help, please ask. :)

I'm afraid so. :( Just try contacting your old host if they've made backups (some hosts do, that's why). I don't recommend asking the hacker, who knows what they've done to the backups.

You're welcome :)

Ah damn... As I suspected then... Really grateful for your time, thank you so much. I'll try what you've said and see if something better can come out of it :)
