What if I was the President of the country?
The Secret Password:
How do you think the world we be like if teenagers at the ages of 12 to 19 were president of prime minister of their country? All I'm saying is would the world be better off with teens as national leaders.
Arantor:
Definitely not.
Teenagers have a wonderful tendency to see the world in terms of absolutes, in black and white if you will. They also have a delightful naivety where they haven't been infected with the cynicism that only experience brings.
As such, they generally wouldn't be able to meaningfully lead a country - there will, as ever, be exceptions but the general realms of the teenage years simply do not have the experience of life, human nature etc.
Bear in mind that the current generation of teenagers is also coming through an education system that is more than prepared to coddle them far more than ever before, such as with the case of the Canadian teacher recently suspended for daring to give zeroes to students who had not handed in their homework, because that was considered too hurtful to students' morale.

Well put Arantor. I saw this topic and felt a 'cranky old man rant' coming on and decided to pass. That and my spam alert was firing.

LOL, yes believe it or not I was a teen once and if I knew what I thought I knew I could rule the world but .... looking back I didn't know s.....
Also my teachers would give your a.. a zero in a heart beat and sleep good that night. Red markers were the rule, which I think many schools don't allow grading with red ink any longer, it hurts feelings.

Definitely NO to teenagers as leaders! I was a teenager as well as all the other adults here were at one time. I know how rash and quick tempered I was. I also thought I knew more than my parents, even all adults, and thought that my ideas were the way to go. I also remember very well my peers and their own stupidity alongside my own. I remember very clearly all the terrible results of our stupid ideas and actions. I didn't start to understand what my parents were attempting to tell me until my middle to late 20's, and then, it was only a glimpse. It took another 20 years of life experience beyond that before I would consider myself to even be slightly wise. I am 53 and still learning everyday. I think that there are many bright teenagers out there that have way more knowledge than I did at that age, maybe even more than I have now as well, but there is a HUGE difference between knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom is not taught from a book or a classroom. It is learned and earned though the hard knocks of life's experiences, losses, and setbacks. Life is not a video game.
