Backing Up Your Forum

Before SMF 2 came out I use to use the phpMyAdmin or something along those lines to get my forum backup.  I see in the forum maintenance of SMF 2 there is a back up, is it the preferred way to back up a copy of the forum now?

No, it isn't. Even 1.1.x had such a backup but it's actually considered by many to be unreliable for multiple reasons.

Use phpMyAdmin.

Don't forget that, either method, you're only backing up the database. You should also separately back up the files, or at least all your attachments and avatars.
