That's the point, demand != supply. If someone wants to go ahead and do it, that's up to them. They believe there is demand, and just because it isn't widespread demand doesn't mean there isn't demand for it.

People do things for the craziest reasons, including Google.

I'm not disagreeing with you, all I'm saying is that it seems, to me, like a pretty pointless exercise to go to such lengths for a made up language, but, as your rightly say, people do the craziest things sometimes.

But currently we don't have dedicated person working on it. Its still fun :)

I can't say that I'm overly surprised ;).

Not every site is about economics or real things there are dozens of roleplaying sites out there and that's not good to say "craziest". Demand creates Supply in the end.

Me neither because as I said before it started as a fun project none of us expected to work day and night.

You're talking to someone who plays Warhammer, so I would include myself in the my definition of crazy ;).  In addition, I generally use the internet to escape from things like economics, so again, it's not a substantive disagreement, rather it's just a case of personal preference.

I can't believe that this was dragged up from almost one year ago to ask for pirate talk  :o!  I obviously can't speak for the translation team here, but if I'd been asked if I wanted such a package in my old job, the answer would have been a definitive no.  I suspect that there's more than enough to do with real languages on SMF, without adding invented ones.

I wasn't asking for pirate talk to be done for me.  I'm doing it, whether anyone wants it or not, and was wondering if there was any other interest in it.

That's the point, demand != supply. If someone wants to go ahead and do it, that's up to them. They believe there is demand, and just because it isn't widespread demand doesn't mean there isn't demand for it.

True.  Folks on a forum that I administrate (as a hobby for fun) have been "heavily requesting" (they know better than to demand) a pirate language option.  We always participate on the board and encourage everyone to post like a pirate for that day, and I've seen no one posting any other way on that day.  I'm doing it for that forum, no one else.  If someone else is interested in obtaining it in time for September 2013, then I'd be willing to share.  That's the only reason I stopped by.  Sure, probably no one else has the time that also has the skill, but hey, I'm retired.  I'll make a bit of time somewhere over the next few months.  I'll also have a special pirate theme for the forum designed for the event, that will automatically change for the day, as I already have made the coding changes necessary to "switch themes and site logos" for special occasions, such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.  I have special themes for all those, and plan on completing one for the Talk Like a Pirate Day as well.  Why not?

Isn't that Pirate Day Talk thing just for.. like.. 12 year olds?

Well, shiver me timbers! I be nay 12 year old. I be a retired programmer o' them computer type contraptions! Avast! Speakin' like a pirate be as good fer me spirit as kidnappin' a pretty princess, me hearties! Arr!  Ye must be one o' them 12 year old scurvy dogs t' even think such a thing, land lubber!

I personally think it's a fantastic idea ;)

Part of the problem is that SMF's language strings do not exactly lend themselves to this. (I have sort of partially attempted this locally, and gave up for the time being, until I finish restructuring the language files at least...)

Many apologies, I clearly read your post too quickly, and misunderstood what you saying.

It still isn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure someone will be interested :).

So you sent an email to languages@simplemachines.org and did not get an answer at all? Sounds odd.

Yes, but it was not clear as to why I did not pass ...
We decided to refuse your application based on your English. Of course your English doesn't have to be perfect, but a solid knowledge of the English language is a must. The reason for this is that when translating to any language, you will have to deal with English phrases.

Of course you can always try again later. We're always looking forward to bring new translators aboard! :)

Wasdman is the main founder of the Hungarian SMF team. We've translated several modifications which, I can say, are perfectly translated. The translation will be a teamwork, he won't translate the whole SMF alone. And the Hungarian team will help him.
