How to disable all posts

My forum was created for one purpose, but members continue to use it for other purposes.  So I would like to shut it down.
But I would like to make all the current posts available.   How can I stop all future posts?   Is it possible to display a message when a post is attempted?

Arantor:
Two choices.

Either go into each of the boards and set their 'permission profile' to read only, or remove the permissions of all groups to be able to post.

Orangine:
or delete all users and disable registration :D

When I select Admin --> Forum --> Boards,  I see the board categories and there is a permission button for each.  When I click the permissions, the path changes to
Admin --> Members --> Edit profile

Under "Advanced options"  I can apply a "Apply pre-defined permission set" and one of those is maintenance.   What will that do?

Arantor:
No... go into the board's configuration itself (the modify link) and in there is a dropdown to select the permission profile for that board, normally it is default, needs to be changed to read only.
